STATEMENT OF PIMA COUNTY SUPERVISOR REX SCOTT ON HIS RE-ELECTION
I am deeply grateful and truly humbled to have been re-elected to represent the people of District 1 on the Pima County Board of Supervisors. They have my commitment to continue our office’s record of excellent constituent service and outreach. Common sense, empathy, hard work and selflessness will be attributes I pledge to always model as their advocate and voice in county government.
My thanks to Steve Spain for putting his name forth and engaging in our democratic processes. Although we disagreed on many things, we offered the voters of District 1 a clear choice in direction. I promise his voters and supporters that I will be mindful of my duty to be their supervisor as well.
Public service has been my life’s work and passion. From election as the youngest member of my hometown city council, to serving as an educator in our public schools for 30 years and now as a county supervisor, I have always sought to work towards the betterment of my community. The people of District 1 can count on me to keep their concerns, interests and well-being as my highest priorities.
This has been a divisive election season. Anyone entrusted with public office must act to begin the healing we need as a people and a community. All of us love Pima County. Each of us want it to be a place of peace, prosperity and potential, especially for our children. I will always remember and never forget that it is an essential charge of leadership to find ways to bring people together.
More than any other group, I am obliged to do all I can on behalf of our community’s youth. During my career as an educator, helping my students to further their goals and fulfill their dreams were sacred obligations. If we want our daughters and sons to make Pima County their home, we must do all we can to make this a better place to live, work and raise family. I will dedicate everything I do as a supervisor to helping ensure that any child in Pima County who wants to stay here will have ample reason to do so.
My thanks and love to my wife and our two children. Everything I value most in life I find in them. My wife, our daughter and I have served our community as educators; a unique blessing.
Thanks to my exceptional campaign team: Adam, Kadi, Nathan, Pat and Rebecca. We are also deeply grateful to the many dedicated and hardworking volunteers who helped to get our message out to the voters. Special thanks to the PCs in LD17 and LD18 for all they did for Democrats up and down the ballot.
When I was a principal, I had a sign in my office with the words of this proverb:
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
Let us move forward together on behalf of this beautiful and special place we all call home.
Rex Scott
